Finding the right diamond cutting blade is easier than you think - Gavin Smith from Klingspor points out what to focus on!

Whether you consult the specialist trade or look in online shops: The selection of diamond cutting blades is enormous. But, which blade is most suitable for which application? Which size fits and which quality with what types of cutting segments are the best choice? Will an all-rounder suffice or do I need a blade specialised for a specific material?

Quality: How do you recognise a high-quality diamond cutting blade?

The question of whether a diamond cutting blade is more suitable for light cutting work or for hard professional use essentially hinges on three factors, explains Gavin Smith. Responsible for the quality are:

1. the diamonds: How pure are they and do they have a coating?

2. the steel core: How thick is it and how is it designed?

3. the connection: are steel core and cutting segments joined by sintering or laser welding?

Cutting segments: Which segment is the best match for the application?

Segments with a narrow or wide gullet, turbo segments or continuous rim? The segmentation of diamond cutting blades determines the cutting speed and the service life as well as the quality of the cuts. Gavin Smith presents the four most important types of segments and explains how they cut and for which applications they are suited best.

Materials: Which diamond cutting blade is suitable for what?

Road construction involves a tremendous amount of cuts through asphalt and concrete, often even steel reinforced concrete. Both materials impose extremely demanding, and varied, requirements on diamond cutting blades. Expert Gavin Smith illustrates the key points to observe during cutting and why it is not a good idea to use one blade for both materials, unless the blade is a combo blade.

Hearing protection: How do you cut quietly with a diamond cutting blade?

Whether in the workshop or on the construction site: Where there is cutting, there is loud noise. Expert Gavin Smith measures up to 100 decibels in his test with a circular table saw. That is why hearing protection is another must when working with cutting blades. In his video, Gavin Smith reveals how noise protection when cutting can be improved further by using diamond cutting blades with a sandwich core.
